Sexual Assault Response Team

The purpose of a community-based Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) is to ensure an effective, consistent, comprehensive and collaborative response to sexual assault that prioritizes the needs of sexual assault victims and brings responsible persons to justice. (Oregon Attorney General’s Sexual Assault Taskforce, 2002)

The goals of the SART are to provide an immediate and victim-centered response to sexual assault cases, to conduct timely investigations of sexual assault allegations when those cases are reported to law enforcement, to criminally prosecute individuals responsible for sexual assault when legally appropriate, to provide services to sexual assault victims, and to coordinate with local medical providers to make sure sexual assault cases receive appropriate response and referrals.
